Anise Fork Cookies
1/2 cup butter or margarine
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon anise seed
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 cup sugar
1 large egg
2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour, sifted
1 teaspoon cream of tartar
- Soften butter, add baking soda, anise seed and salt and mix well.
- Gradually blend in sugar; beat in egg.
- Sift flour with cream of tartar; stir into mixture.
- Shape into 1/2-inch balls; place on ungreased cookie sheets.
- Dip fork tines in flour and press into each cookie in crisscross style;
bake in preheated 400 F oven 8 minutes.
- Cook on wire racks; store in airtight containers.
Makes 7 dozen cookies. (I got 64 cookies.)
