The fireworks are on tonight (allegedly), more details in this afternoons issue (but basically after the Hugos) Baltimore Pi-Rates Guests are C.J.Cherryh, Milton A. Rothman, Stanley Schmidt, Michael Whelan. Charles Sheffield, Toastmaster. Voters are already supporting members. Attending $80/#58, supporting $30/#22. Discounts for pre-supporting, voting, privateer and Letter of Marque holders. Details and someone to take your money 12-6 Sunday, at party Sunday night, 12-4 Monday, at Baltimore table in Hall 4 and Bothwell suites. Sacks in Masquerade Shock Robert Sacks report on the masquerade is restricted due to his unfortunate non-attendance. However, based on the reports in VoM 8, he has stated that he believes it is the shortest list of winners for many years. That is of course because Gytha, having organised absolutely everything else perfectly (and frightened an entire generation of convention photographers) forgot to lock up the judges until they produced a list for the newsletter. Omitted from last issue was the Best Workmanship - Journeyman for Lisa Ashton - Home Improvement. Gophers Go Bang Sixty gophers are still required for crowd control for the fireworks tonight. Please volunteer at the gopher hole, and then show up at the Moat House restaurant bar at 10pm tonight. There will be smoke, so if you are allergic, it is probably a good idea to volunteer for something else. Those gophers who want to get involved with the fireworks themselves and missed the safety meeting yesterday, can show up at the gopher hole at 9am on Monday and help return the field to a non-moon scape. Hugo Thataway Hugo Nominee Reception in the Tayside bar (which is not marked on the maps) Go in the main doors of Hall 5 and keep going straight past the stage (Behind Fingals cafe). Ask at door of Hall 5 if in doubt. Things that Confuse Americans #4 How do you know when you have an old #10 note? English #10 notes with Florence Nightingale on are no longer legal tender. Charles Dickens, inventor of the shared world anthology, is the one to look out for. Scottish notes got it right the first time and have not been changed due to the passing whims of fashion. In Memoriam John, you cooked some marvellous meals for us. You were there on the CND marches. We shared some wonderful times together in Britain and abroad. Your wit and erudition were a constant delight. And then there was your writing too - so wise and humane and vital. How deeply we miss you. - Ian & Judy Watson Thanks The gopher mum would like to thank Patty and all the untold millions who brought T-shirts and goodies (and paid excess baggage to bring them over) - Thank you! Auld Lang Signing Paul Kearney is added to the 3pm signing session Info Me, Info Me, They've All Got It Info Me... Mail boxes in this country tend to be called Post Boxes and are large, red and cylindrical. This has been a public service announcement on behalf of the information desk, who are sick of answering this question. Our PALs The Video department would like to thank all copyright owners who permitted their programmes to be shown - including R.I.T.E. (Powers of Ten), Cray Computers, ESA, all Japanese Anime companies, Six of One, Fanderson, Portmeirion. Especial thanks to Harry Payne (anime-prog), to Polygram/ITC (Frank Ratcliffe/Jon Keeble), Granada TV and (wonderfully helpful) BBC worldwide. BCNU David Lally. SECCs Starved There is absolutly no truth in the rumours that Mr McCartney (head of convention centre security) has been seen bringing glamorous young ladies cups of coffee very early in the mornings. The glamorous young ladies would nevertheless like to give him a huge hug because he is a great big sweety. Goodbye Mr. Ships The Glasgow SF Writers Circle anthology 'Shipbuilding' (a registration freebie) have now all been taken. Hole Lot Better Golo Hole would like to thank SECC medical staff, ops team and concerned friends. The doc says nothing to worry about - Thanks, Golo Hole. Format Program (Y/N)? Several people (including your honourable editor) have pointed out that the holes in the top of a HD 3.5" floppy are exactly the same distance apart as the rings in the pocket programme. Can this be a coincidence? I think we should be told... Air Quality Alert If you have not bathed since the con started, it is now time. Party of the Third Part The Boston/Philly 2001 party was mistakenly included in the Saturday Parties (grovelling apology). On the other hand the Canadian Publishers' Party will be held in the Central Hotel room 103 at 9pm Sunday night. Tesseract books, On Spec magazine & Pawn Press will be present. The Eternicon party, due to begin at midnight in the Kintyre Room will now begin at 10pm in the Arran Room. Press Here (Ouch!) The Press Liaison Office wants copies of press reports on Worldcon. If you don't see them until after the convention, please post copies to us at the convention address. Fans in the Belfry Service and food at Belfry are excellent but call for reservations. While dining there six con groups were turned away. - N.Faller Gremlins Invade Pink Sheet Fans were confused to see that the Masquerade had suddenly moved to 7pm. Ops were asked to check this. Their reply "No, it's 7:30, it's always been 7:30, our only explanation is that Programme Ops is run by a team of demented trolls." Programming supremo was unavailable for comment (because it is daytime and she's afraid of turning to stone) - Shaggy STOP PRESS The Firework Display starts at 10:30pm this evening, and will be seen to best advantage from the SECC car park on the north bank of the Clyde, to the east of the footbridge. There will be security to prevent access too close to the firing point, please don't hassle them. Pirates Purloin Pieces of Eight Bucconeer is charging the maximum amount allowed by the WSFS constitution for conversion from voting to attending. They warned you they were pirates. Late Sports Results England 233 for 5 (end of play on Thursday) (well, we said it was late!) Also: Babylon 5 Deep Space 9 Apollo 13 Galactica 80 Rocky 5 Rambo 3 Windows 95 Death Race 2000 DR2K-Dos goes on into the operating system finals.
