Grovelling Apology # 5 It has been pointed out to us that the headline of the item in VoM 6 concerning the publisher's parties came across as unnecessarily tired and emotional. We thought it was just a joke. Honest. (Is this grovelling enough? Ed). Free For All - Not Really The party whose "free bar" is a non-free bar unless you order the one approved drink (bottled Beck's). (A Mole) Friday Night Party Review We started early Friday visting our Japanese friends in the Hilton. They had taken over a conference room and stocked it nicely with plenty of brews and "Japanese junk food." We particularly liked the German chocolates, sausages, pressed shrimp wafers (Brit. trans.: "prawn"), and of course the varieties of saki. Our hosts distributed headbands commemorating the Japanese National Convention earlier this year and prepared origami decorations. Somehow, Scott's paper swan ended up in his glass of saki! We took our bows and met our group for dinner at the Babbity Bowster. Great place for yuppie local color. Our Norwegian friends welcomed us into their "private" party of 300 or so fans, and we quickly located the kransekake pastry, pancakes, flatbread with kaviar paste and the whiskey bottle under the table. This party was so large, the crowds spilled into the hall so much, the party out there was larger than the crowds in the two room suite. We found a friendly spirit of international partying here and spent a lot of time enjoying the crowd. Philadelphia and Boston combined energies to host their 2001 bid party(ies). They kept their buffet tables loaded with chocolate of many sizes and shapes. Get ready for the health club! Again, the '98 bid parties kept a good head of steam, and we wish them the best in today's voting. We'll miss their enthusiasm and appreciate their years of party efforts. But after all the enthusiasm and energy settled, the chocolate shavings cleared and the blog bowl drained, we award the Norwegians Friday's Party of the Night. Thanks, folks, we enjoyed ourselves and hope you had fun hosting. Party on! (SB/KB) Getting it Taped The Moscow in 2017 bid needs a tape recorder for their party tonight. If you have one to spare, see them at their table in the dealers room or at room 150 in the Central after 7 PM. Party Announcements Niagara Falls in '98 announces its "Thank You, Fandom" worldcon bid party tonight at 10:00 PM in Suite 21017 at the Forte Crest Hotel. Pirates, tea-party goers, ACME agents and Niagara Falls in '98 supporters are especially welcome. Chicago in 2000 (Central Hotel, Room 103) will have a door prize drawing at midnight.
