I can HIGHLY recommend software called MasterCook!
I have both the Macintosh and Windows versions on my machines @ home and they
are GREAT!
Most important.. their customer service/tech support is first rate!
Being a Tech Support Rep. for as they say on wheel of fortune "a Major
Networking Co. in the North East" I think customer service is the most important
consideration when purchasing any product.
I have bought/Not Bought software solely based upon my perception of the
competence of a company's customer service....
For me "1 call tells it all"!
I think their address is support@arion.com but I cant remember exactly..
maybe somebody on the list that has actually had problems w/ the software can
give you the address!?!?
You can download also demo version's of their software(can only hold 15 recipes
and "major" functions are disabled) from their BBS..@ 512 327 9814

hope this helps!

Having ignored all previous posts on software, I now have a computer
at home. Naturally, I'd like some info on cooking software now. My
on line computer is at work, and (what will be) my cooking computer
is off-line at home. What type of software would be good? I want to
store recipes, have some searching capacity, and get nutrition con-
tents (if poss.). I have a Compaq 286, with limited memory. Any
suggestions? If everyone is tired of this topic, please e-mail
me privately.

Many TIA.

Kelly,

Are you looking for a Windows or a DOS Program?

I love MasterCook II for Windows, but doubt if it would run on your computer.

I understand that MicroCook Book in the DOS Version is a good program. I had
the Windows Version of MicroCook Book and it was a nightmare; however, their
support people were wonderful and tried their very best to help (to no
avail).

HOWEVER, IF YOU CAN USE MASTERCOOK II, DO IT!!! I would imagine that their
technical support people are as busy as the Maytag repairman.

Thanks to everyone who sent me info. Nearly all the recommendations
were for MasterCook, which seems very popular. I, however, do not
have Windows and MasterCook requires at least Windows. Another
program for Windows that was recommended is Scratch, downloadable
from America On-line, apparently. A gentleman sent me an address for
archive that can be accessed through FTP (another capacity I don't
have). Having limited disk space (as well!), I unfortunately didn't
save it.

For those of us still in the dark ages of DOS only systems, MicroCook
Book was suggested. However, MicroCook Book for Windows did not
recieve a favaorable review (I hope there isn't anything libelous
about the statement).

My next task, to find MicroCook Book!

Again, thanks to all.
