3374-04 high-res imageLooking south across the River Ness, towards the town centre. There are two suspension footbridges in Inverness. This is the one that's downstream of the main road bridge, the other one is upstream from it. (Wednesday 10-Aug-2005 13:27) "The left-hand church is the 'Old High' Church of Scotland, one of the oldest churches still standing in Inverness. It was rumoured to be haunted in the 1950's, until my Uncle realised that people were seeing him doing his rounds, as the Church Officer, checking that doors and windows were shut. He got quite a nice write-up in the Inverness Courier Newspaper, explaining to folk that the church wasn't haunted, thank-you-very-much." (Allan MacBain) |
3374-05 high-res imageTaken from the north side of the River Ness, looking upstream at the main road bridge. The castle in the background was built to replace the one that Cromwell burnt down, but was never designed to be defended. It currently holds the Sherrif Court for Inverness, but has been the main Police Station, among other things, in the past. (Wednesday 10-Aug-2005 19:31) |
3374-06 high-res imageTaken from the south (Town centre) side of the River Ness, looking north across the main road bridge. A good number of the buildings in the background were built before the 1745 rebellion, the rest were built in the 19th century -- most are hotels now. (Wednesday 10-Aug-2005 19:44) |
3374-07 high-res imageThis building was built in the 1700's. It's currently used as one of the main Town Council offices, but has the original town cells in the basement. (Wednesday 10-Aug-2005 19:44) |
3374-08 high-res imageThe Ho Ho Hostel on Eastgate. This building has been a succession of hostels over the last 15 years or so. Originally built about the late 1700's or early 1800's. (Wednesday 10-Aug-2005 19:48) |

3374-10 high-res imageLynn Baden and our lunch. I'm having a single fish, she's got a burger. I didn't see Dr Pepper very often whilst in the UK, but I found one here. (Wednesday 10-Aug-2005 20:08) |
